Book Sorting & Packing Party
The Children's Chance (TCC) collects books throughout the year from individuals, Libraries, Publishers, Schools, and book sales. When TCC has the funds raised ($5000) and the books collected (at Least 22 tons) we have a book sorting and packing party. The books are moved from our storage facility to Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota. The book party last 2-3 days with up to 75 volunteers.
The books are moved into Spirit of Hopes' Fellowship Hall. The Boxes are emptied and the sorting process begins.
The books are sorted down to Elementary, and High School textbooks. Library books are sorted and Boxed separately. Then the individual orders are packed per the receiving Schools needs. The Cargo container is then loaded with 1000 boxes of books.
This is the inside of a 40 foot cargo container. We load 25,000 books per shipping container, plus used computers, desks, stuffed animals, and materials for an Orphanage in Montego Bay. We have shipped 37 of these containers to jamaica's Schools & Libraries. |
